This section describes briefly the nature and structure of the Insurance & Maritime Company.

The Cornes organization in Japan chooses to operate as 4 "virtual companies". Each is fully accountable for its own performance. In short summary, these "virtual companies"are responsible for the separate areas of Motor Vehicles, Technology, Agricultural Equipment, Insurance & Maritime and Finance & Administration.

The Insurance and Maritime Company operates with approx. 100 staff. All of them are committed to the core businesses because all support services - such as Accounting, General Affairs and Personnel etc - are effectively purchased from the specialist Finance & Administration Company.
By their very nature the mainstream Cornes businesses are essentially involved in the importation,distribution and sale of tangible goods. By contrast,the Insurance & Maritime Company provides indigenous services which fall largely in the so-called Financial Services sector, through heavy involvement in insurance and related survey / claims services.

The operations can be described as "people businesses" due to the fact that only insignificant inventory is held. Part of the business of the Maritime Division is the sale of nautical charts, and therefore limited supplies need to be maintained.

Briefly, the three components of the Insurance & Maritime Company may be summarized thus:

(a) The Insurance Division
Provides professional intermediary services concentrating on indigenous Industrial and Commercial clients.

(b) Cornes P & I Company Limited
Operates in the specialist area of mutual Protection and Indemnity for ship owners and operators.

(c) The Maritime Division(Lloyd's Agents since 1868)
Provides Survey and Claims Settling services throughout Japan. Imports, distributes and sells Nautical Charts & various Publications.

(d) Cornes Insurance Brokers Ltd.
Operated principally as a Reinsurance broker.
